My family and friends always seem to ask me about how to make the perfect Nasi Goreng. To be honest, it’s one of the simplest recipes in the world and it’s so easy to make.

My kids love Nasi Goreng, it’s my secret weapon when getting them to eat vegetables. I think because the vegetables are cut up into tiny pieces that Stella and Rocco don’t take any notice of them.

So here are my steps, as well as a few handy tips to show you just how easy it is to make the perfect Nasi Goreng.

Step 1:

Always use jasmine rice and steam as usual.

Tip: If you cook the rice in the morning and let it sit all day, it won’t turn gluggy when you are using it in the dish.

Step 2:

Cut up small pieces of chicken, onion, garlic, carrot and add prawns if you like.

Fry all these ingredients together in a wok and then add steamed sprouts and peas and any other vegetables that you might like to include.

Tip: Make sure all the ingredients you are using are finely chopped into small pieces.

Step 3:

Add the rice to the ingredients in the wok as well as a good splash of soy sauce and ketchup manis which is an Indonesian sweet tasting soy.

Tip: If you are using prawns in your Nasi Goreng remember to add fish sauce.

Step 4:

Finish the dish with some crispy fried egg on top and a small amount of thinly sliced fresh chilli.

There you have it, the perfect Nasi Goreng without having to travel all the way to Bali!
